Controversy
In 2022, Saptami Gowda’s film Gandhara was accused of plagiarism by music group Thaikudam Bridge. The band said that the song ‘Varaha Roopam’ from the film Gandhara is a copy of the Kannada music album ‘Navarasam’. Music group Thaikudam Bridge also appealed to their listeners to spread the word about copyright infringement. Thaikudam Palam shared a post on Instagram about the plagiarism issue.
We would like our listeners to know that Thaikudam Bridge is in no way connected with “Gandhara”. The inevitable similarities between our IP “Navarasam” and “Varaha Roopam” is a blatant violation of copyright laws as far as audio is concerned. From our point of view the line between “inspiration” and “plagiarism” is distinct and indisputable, therefore, we will take legal action against the creative team responsible for this. There is no acknowledgment of our rights over the content and this song is being promoted as an original work by the creative team (sic) of the film.
