Anang Desai is an Indian theatre artist and film & television actor. He is famous for playing the role of Tulsidas Parekh aka Babuji in the Hindi sitcom ‘Khichdi’ (2002).
Anang Desai was born on Monday, 4 May 1953 (age 46 years; as of 2022) in Ahmedabad, Bombay State, India (now Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India). His zodiac sign is Taurus. He pursued BA in Psychology and Economics from St. Xavier’s College, Ahmedabad. He then did a three-year acting course from the National School of Drama, New Delhi out of which in the beginning two and a half years, he was in NSD and for the last six months, he was transferred to the Film and Television Institute of India, Pune, Maharashtra. Since his childhood, he was inclined towards acting. He used to perform in various school and theatre plays.

His father was a cardiologist, and his mother was a singer and painter. He has three younger sisters, and one of his sisters Gopi Desai is a TV actress.

He is married to Chitra Desai, who is working as a poet and writer. The couple has two sons named Tanuj Desai (works at Star India Pvt Ltd) and Nachiket Desai.
Anang started his career as a singer at All India Radio, Ahmedabad for a few years.
After completing his acting course at the National School of Drama, New Delhi, he started working at the institute’s professional repertory. He worked there for more than five years. He then started performing in various theatre plays at the NSD. He has performed in various Hindi and Gujarati theatre plays like Mukhya Mantri, Begum ka Takiya, Tughlaq, Kotwal, and Virasat. He has also worked as a theatre artist with a theatre group in Gujarat.
Anang made his debut as an actor in the English film ‘Gandhi’ (1982) in which he portrayed the Indian politician J.B. Kripalani.
In 1986, he made his Hindi film debut with ‘Antaheen.’
He mainly played supporting roles in various Hindi films like ‘Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam’ (1999), ‘Mamta’ (2002), ‘Ishq Vishk’ (2003), ‘Good Boy, Bad Boy’ (2007), ‘Khichdi: The Movie’ (2010), and ‘Rustom’ (2016).
In 1993, he acted in the French film ‘Amok’ in which he played the role of Le chauffeur.
Anang made his Gujarati film debut with ‘Kevi Rite Jaish’ (2012) as Ishwarbhai Patel.
Some of his other Gujarati films are ‘Jaysuk Zdpayo’ (2022) and ‘Tu Rajee Re’ (2022).
Anang has acted in many Hindi TV serials. In 1988, he made his TV debut with the Doordarshan channel’s show ‘Bharat Ek Khoj’ in which he played the role of Rajan.
He has acted in many popular TV shows like ‘Parinati’ (1989), ‘Byomkesh Bakshi’ (1994), ‘Khichdi’ (2002), ‘Woh Rehne Waali Mehlon Ki’ (2006), ‘Chidiya Ghar’ (2016), and ‘Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain!’ (2021).

- In the initial years of his career, he faced difficulty in speaking Hindi as his mother tongue was Gujarati. He used to read Hindi books, magazines, and newspapers to clear his Hindi pronunciation.
