PS1 Trailer Review

The trailer of this visual spectacle was dropped on 6 Sept (Tue) at the grand audio launch event in Chennai. The trailer promises to be a grand historical spectacle. The Hindi trailer is voiced by Anil Kapoor and Tamil by Kamal Haasan.

The highlight of the trailer is Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, who is playing the main antagonist as Nandini, the viewers are also introduced to Chiyaan Vikram as Aditha Karikalan, Jayam Ravi as Arunmozhi Varman and Karthi’s Vanthiyathevan. It is being praised for music mogul AR Rahman’s brilliant original score, Ravi Varmans splendid visuals, and performances of the respective actors.

Budget and Screen Counts

Ponniyin Selvan is comprised of two parts and reportedly, both the parts are said to be made on a huge budget of 500 crores. It will see a wide release globally. The Tamil film is expected to occupy around 7500+ theatres worldwide which consists of 4500-5000 screens in India alone.

Box Office Collection

Mani Ratnam’s film is riding on a huge budget, both parts will have to recover around Rs 350-400 Cr shares (Rs 150-200 Cr each), collectively to emerge as a successful flick. Two big-ticket Tamil films of 2022, Valimai and Vikram reaped huge profits for their buyers and now it is remained to be seen whether PS-1 does the same or not.

However, it has collected Rs 125 crores already, before hitting the theatres, as per the reports, the digital rights of the flick have been sold to Amazon Prime for a hefty amount.

The cult fan following of the novel, on which the film is based, multi-star cast, and Mani Ratnam’s track record, all these factors suggest that the film will take a huge start at the box office. It will further depend on word of mouth. As per the estimation, PS-1 will hit a half-century on its first day. However, the more clear projection will be calculated after the advance booking reports and the buzz surrounding the film near the release date. Till then, stay tuned for new updates regarding the Ponniyin Selvan: Part 1.
