Yamaha Motor India Planing To Launch Electric Scooter In India With Neo And E1
Yamaha Motor India has recently introduced the new Neo’s and E01 electric scooters to its dealer partners. While this does not guarantee the launch of any scooter in the country, it does indicate that the company is exploring the possibilities of battery-powered two-wheelers in the Indian market.
The Neo scooter comes as the initial installment in Yamaha’s long-term plans to launch a long range electric vehicle. It will be one of the first e-scooters from the company to hit the production line and will be introduced in select countries later. Neo’s is an EV counterpart to the ICE-powered 50cc scooter that retails in the international market under the same name. It has a hub motor whose output is around 2kW.
Like the recently introduced Bounce Infinity E1, it gets a swappable battery and is based on the E02 concept that was showcased at the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show. Yamaha has previously signed a deal with several other two-wheelers such as KTM, Piano and Honda, and will also be working on setting up its own battery-swapping infrastructure, but details are not confirmed at the moment is.
The Neo electric scooter is expected to reach dealerships in select countries this summer. However, the chances of its launch in the Indian market are slim. That said, the second scooter to be showcased to the dealers is the E01 which has the same power as the 125cc ICE-powered scooter.
