NEW DELHI: Parliament Wednesday handed the Criminal Procedure (Identification) Bill that seeks to permit investigators to collect sure identifiable info of convicts and different individuals for functions of identification and investigation in legal issues. The Rajya Sabha handed the invoice by a voice vote after Home Minister Amit Shah allayed issues raised by the opposition which claimed that the draft legislation was draconian. Earlier, the invoice was handed by Lok Sabha.
The Criminal Procedure (Identification) Bill, 2022 replaces the Identification of Prisoners Act, 1920.
Shah mentioned the invoice has been introduced in to make sure that police and investigators stay two steps forward of criminals.
He mentioned the biometric information of political detainees won’t be collected if they’ve been detained throughout participation in any agitation.
“I want to assure that this is not going to violate privacy of anyone,” Shah mentioned.
He mentioned that the information collected will stay fully safe and the federal government will make certain there are not any loopholes within the invoice that may lead to the violation of privateness and human rights.
